Confluence Integration: Bring Your Wiki Into Omni

Confluence is where all the documentation gets done, and where many answers get lost. Documents accumulate in various spaces, titles get buried, and the runbook you’re looking for is hidden three layers deep. The Confluence Integration with Omni brings this information into your search along with your tools, allowing employees to tap into your wiki, your tickets, and your discussions.

“How do we handle a failed payment webhook?”

Search company knowledge

3 matches

failed payment webhook · recovery · replay

  1. Confluence Read page 1

    Payment webhook recovery

Check whether the event was processed before replaying it.

  2. Jira Read issue 2

    PAY-184 · Duplicate receipts

The charge succeeded, but the receipt worker timed out. Replaying created a duplicate.

  3. Slack Read thread 3

    #payments-oncall

Use the replay worker with the original event ID—not a new payment.

Omni’s recommendation

Start by checking the event’s processing status.

Delivery may have failed after the payment succeeded. Check the event first to avoid duplicate receipts.

  1. Look up the event ID and confirm processing status. 1

  2. Already processed? Retry the receipt job, not the payment event. 2

  3. Not processed? Replay using the original event ID. 3

What the Omni + Confluence Integration Does

Omni accesses your Atlassian Cloud environment and indexes Confluence pages. The user selects which spaces to include/exclude so that the indexing process focuses only on the data that you want to have in the search results, and not all the available information in the system.

After the data is indexed, an employee can just formulate questions in natural language instead of trying to guess the right keywords and spaces to use in search. This is what makes Confluence AI Search valuable – an employee can formulate a request (“how do we handle a failed payment webhook?”) and get pages with useful information in the answer.

Since Omni processes Confluence along with other connected sources, the same question can retrieve Jira issues, Slack threads, and so on such that responses can integrate insights from relevant indexed sources and not just from Confluence. No more guesswork on where to start looking for answers!

We index published pages from the Confluence spaces you select. Empty pages and personal spaces aren’t indexed.

Omni vs. Atlassian Rovo: Which Do You Need?

Rovo Atlassian is Atlassian’s proprietary AI Layer. It delivers AI search and agents within the Atlassian environment on Jira and Confluence that work with Atlassian workflows.

The two solutions vary in scope:

Rovo operates in the Atlassian environment and also supports third-party connectors, including Slack, Google Drive, and GitHub. If your activity resides exclusively in Jira, Confluence, and other Atlassian tools, it follows you through your Atlassian workflows seamlessly.

Omni is a multi-platform search tool. It regards Confluence as just another resource from which information is gathered, and your questions that require data from your wikis, Slack discussion threads & chats, document drives, and business resources can receive one answer from relevant indexed content.

Rovo is well-suited for a fully Atlassian organization. Omni is also an option if your team members work on other platforms beyond Atlassian, and the answers they are looking for are located across connected sources.

The two options are also compatible. The Atlassian connector works with Rovo’s MCP server. After a user authorizes their own Atlassian account, Rovo’s tools become source-scoped Omni actions that run with that user’s Atlassian identity rather than the indexing service account.

Write tools require matching write scopes and explicit confirmation in chat. Write and destructive tools are withheld when the source is read-only. Rovo MCP action requirements.

What a Confluence Integration Does With Company-Wide Context

Wiki pages often don't tell the whole story. They operate in a broader context in another system. With Omni, when you are able to search with AI through other tools, there are a few scenarios that become significantly more efficient.

Support resolution:

The support engineer has to solve an issue with a customer. Omni will be able to pull in the procedure from the Confluence runbook and the history of previous Jira tickets with similar issues.

Onboarding for engineers:

A newly hired developer reads through the company's architecture documentation but wants to know why something is done in a particular way. Omni is going to be able to synthesize Confluence documentation with GitHub issues and pull request discussions.

Verification of claims in wikis:

A page mentions the handling of some customer segment or status of the project. Omni is going to associate and synthesize this claim with the actual data in the system of record, like CRM or project tracker.

The last scenario is helpful in identifying potentially stale information. In this scenario, Omni does not automatically verify or update the wiki pages. It simply puts the proof next to the claim for humans to evaluate its relevancy.

How to Connect an AI Agent to Confluence

Our Atlassian connector supports both Confluence and Jira, with separate settings for spaces and projects. To connect it:

  1. Create a service account token:

In Atlassian Administration, create a service account for Omni and create its API token. Note that you should use a service account token rather than a personal API token, as the latter is not supported by the connector.

  2. Collecting your credentials:

You will need your Atlassian Cloud domain and the token. Organization ID and organization admin API key are optional and can be provided only if you have Atlassian Guard; they help improve account and group resolution.

  3. Integrating in Omni:

Under Settings → Integrations, locate Atlassian, click on Connect, and provide your credentials.

  4. Configuring sources:

Decide which spaces from Confluence and which projects from Jira to add and perform the initial sync.

Follow our Confluence setup guide for the required fields, scopes, and troubleshooting.

Permissions: What Omni Reads From Confluence

We separate the service account’s indexing access from each employee’s search access.

What is authorized by the administrator:
An independent Atlassian service account with read permissions for selected spaces and projects. The administrator determines what Omni indexes. Omni filters out the service account from permission lists, so the service account does not become the access rights for the end users.
What can be accessed by individual users:
We sync project and space permissions into indexed records and use them to filter search. Some Atlassian access rules aren’t mirrored; the limitations below affect what employees can see.

Limitations to keep in mind.

  • Our connector supports Atlassian Cloud, not self-hosted Confluence Data Center.
  • Without Atlassian Guard and organization administrator credentials, we use per-site Atlassian APIs for account and group resolution.
  • If content is missing, check the selected spaces and projects, the service account’s access, and the source’s sync status.

Our permission sync has limitations. If we cannot retrieve a space’s permissions or find explicit read grants, its content may be visible to all users in Omni. If a page-restriction lookup fails, we fall back to space permissions. Space-level email-domain restrictions are not enforced. Read how our access controls work or view the connector source code.

Works Better Together

Confluence becomes especially valuable when it is used together with other systems.

Confluence and Jira.

Documentation contains information about decisions, and Jira captures their execution details. Searching through both ensures that decisions remain connected to work done. See the Jira integration.

Confluence + Slack.

Slack is where people discuss, challenge, correct, and build on the wiki's content. Searching through both brings up conversations that might surface insights that were missing on a wiki page, signaling that it is out-of-date.

Confluence + Google Workspace.

Much of the organizational knowledge resides in Docs, Sheets, and Drive, not the wiki. Searching through both yields information scattered across several sources. See the Google Workspace integration.

Browse every supported source in the integrations directory. For a look at how enterprise search quality is measured, see our post on the Omni enterprise RAG benchmark.

Conclusion

Your wiki contains many of the things your organization knows, but it will be of limited use until that knowledge becomes searchable, and the answers to actual questions always extend across more than one enterprise system. The Omni Confluence integration makes your wiki content searchable along with Jira, Slack, Google Workspace, and other applications.
